Human Hair vs Artificial Hair Wigs

There are various reasons why one may need to wear a wig. From adding a different hairstyle altogether, to covering unhealthy hair or even to wear as part of a dress for a party. Actors wear them too! Wigs come in two types, synthetic hair and natural human hair wigs. While both types of wigs have their pros and cons, human hair wigs are usually on the more expensive side than synthetic hair ones.

Human Hair wigs offer the most natural look and feel. These wigs are remarkably soft with shine and movement which cannot be duplicated in synthetic hair. Human Hair wigs can be styled to suit your personal taste and liking. Though these are expensive but with proper care their durability can be increased and can last over a year.

Generally four basic types of human hair are used in wigs: Indonesian, Indian, Chinese, and European/Caucasian. Most wigs made around the world are generally made from Asian hair. Hair follicles are kept running in the same direction when crafting the wig or hairpiece. With cuticles all running in the same direction, tangling is very much reduced and the hair looks and feels silkier.

It is equally important to use hair care products that are especially designed for human hair that’s highly processed. Also bear in mind that naturally occurring oils that come from the scalp do not benefit wearable hair. It is also very important to keep the hair hydrated and conditioned every day.

Human hair is by far the best choice if quality is the key factor. Other than the price, the main drawback to human hair is that it requires regular maintenance just like natural hair. It requires effort.

Many individuals prefer daily styling as it allows them to have more control over the hair that can come with daily hair styling practice. It is essential to remember that human hair does not come ready to wear out of the box. It’s a matter of your personal preference, you can even choose to have it customized by a professional stylist to get precisely the look that appeals you the most.

On the other hand, with technological advancements, artificial hair has traveled a long way in recent years.  At times, the perfection is so outstanding that in some cases it is difficult to tell the difference. The texture is such that they feel almost like human hair. The fact of the matter is that with some of the highest quality synthetic pieces, it is even close to impossible to tell the difference in that and a natural hair piece.

The most interesting and appealing feature of artificial hair wigs is that they can usually be worn as is with little or no styling as preferred by the user. The quality of fiber used has “memory” for wave, volume and curl that allows the hair to bounce back into place with minimal effort.

However, the ease offered by artificial hair wigs lacks in versatility. They cannot be styled to look different like their human hair counterparts. Artificial hair wigs are also less durable than human hair. These can last for about 4-6 months with proper care.

To each their own, but if you can afford to buy a natural hair wig, it is definitely the type that’s highly recommended. On the other hand, if you wish to have different styles for different occasions, then you also have the choice to buy inexpensive artificial wigs.
