Guide To Traveling With Wigs

Traveling with wigs can be more difficult than it seems. It’s not as simple as stuffing it in your bag and walking out the door. There are few things to keep in mind when it comes to traveling with wigs.

Packing Your Wig

The first thing about traveling with wigs is to pack it right. Wigs are practical because they do not take up a lot of space. However, if improperly packed, the wig can be damaged. This can be easily avoided by turning the wig inside out and carefully placing it in a hairnet.

The next step is to put the wig in a sealable plastic bag in order to block out any moisture. An alternative is to put it in a silk scarf for protection. Lastly put it in your carry-on bag to ensure that your bag is handled properly. If you have more than one wig that you are traveling, make sure to pack it into a suit case with a hard shell.

Maintaining Your Wig

It is also important to keep your wig in the right shape. It is a good idea to travel with a portable plastic stand to maintain the shape of the wig. If you are staying in a hotel, be mindful of where you are placing your wig. Most importantly, keep wigs away from heat. Places to avoid are by furnaces, lamps, televisions and such.

Nobody wants a wig that looks like you are having a bad hair day. Therefore, in order to keep the wig fresh, make sure you carry the necessary products to keep them looking great on the go. Make sure to pack a brush and sheen spray whenever you travel. If you will be traveling for an extended period of time, it would be a good idea to pack your wig shampoo and conditioner as well.

Traveling with a wig can be complicated at times. However, if you follow the tips mentioned above, it will save you a lot of time and headache that comes with managing your wigs on the road. Have something to add? We would love to hear your comments below.

I appreciate the tip you gave on bringing a portable plastic stand with you when traveling, so that you can keep the shape of the wig. My grandmother wore wigs occasionally when she was going through cancer treatment and I always wondered how she kept them looking so real, and neat. It was probably because she has a stand that helped keep it shape, whether at home or traveling, along with proper maintenance.
